Howdy and a merry springtime to you all,

Shaun Dever at the School's Out Summer Concert Series, June 5, 2009.

We’ve got 2 amazing shows this weekend: On Friday, Shaun Dever will rocking the stage, freshly back from a surfing excursion to Costa Rica. He’ll be joined by our good friends Ben Carter and Nick Amendolare. Then on Saturday, we’ve got the big Boston launch party for TRANZMISSION, a great indie music blog by our friend Ryan Wood – that show will feature JAKE HILL and GREG LOFTUS. This is all going down at Sweetwater Cafe in Boston: 10pm, 21+, $5 cover. See our SHOWS page for more info and other shows!

FREE STUFF?? Yes, that’s right. Just last week, Ben Carter joined us in the studio for The Brewster Sessions, and tomorrow Shaun will be doing the same. We’ve also got a few Brewster Session tracks from Nick A that we recorded during the summer. SO, if you come to the show on Friday, you’ll get a free mini-album sample download of The Brewster Sessions, Volume 1 (which we’re working on for release this summer….stay tuned). If you come to the show, we’ll give you a little piece of paper with a code on it and you can download it from our forthcoming online music store.

Don’t miss these shows (and your free music!!!). You’ll also want to head on over to the School’s Out Summer Concert Series site for pretty much constant updates to the schedule. We’ve already got a bunch of artists booked. Take a look!

See you at the shows!

A weekend in the scaffolding at the Reggie Lewis Center

Stephen Infascelli (left) was the special guest DJ for the Nike Indoor Nationals this past weekend. Brewster provided the sound.

Happy Monday,

So we got through our weekend of sound production at the Reggie Lewis Center, where we were in charge of music and a nice little bunch of announcers carrying around wireless microphones. If you were following our frequent tweets throughout the weekend, you probably heard about some initial troubles with the mics, which we swiftly solved on Saturday morning. And you probably heard about some crazy athletics going on. Being that this was Nike Indoor Nationals, it was the national championship for high school indoor track individual and relay team athletes. We saw people breaking national all-time records and having top-ten all-time performances right and left. You can read some of the results here.

Once we got past our first-day issues with an audio ducking system (we removed it and everything magically started working great), we had a great but occasionally monotonous time. Scott, Steve Infascelli and I sat up in a big scaffolding tower with our sound equipment and a bunch of food, where we diligently kept track of 4 wireless-mic announcers roaming about the stadium and 2 wired-mic announcers close by. Check out these photos, and we’ll be posting some more video soon.

Now, back to the music – and I don’t mean the Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus we were playing all weekend. This coming weekend, 3/19 & 3/20 we’ve got two awesome shows at Sweetwater Cafe: Shaun Dever, w/ Ben Carter and Nick Amendolare on Friday 3/19, then Jake Hill and Greg Loftus on Saturday 3/20. Saturday’s show will be the Boston launch party for Tranzmission, a really cool indie music blog by our good friend and journalist Ryan Wood.

CONCERT SERIES NEWS: This past Thursday, we officially started booking artists at the School’s Out Summer Concert Series! We are beyond excited about this. So far we’ve got a giant 3rd of July show, a Warped Tour send-off party for a band from Braintree, a couple old friends, and a bunch of new ones. Go to the concert series web site to read more and check out the schedule.

Have a tubular week. Happy St. Patrick’s day.

Ben Carter in the Brewster Sessions, a track meet, and a weekend of great music in Boston

Ben Carter just joined us in the studio for The Brewster Sessions. Listen a sneak peak below.

First things first: This weekend, we’ve got 2 crazy shows in Boston. You’ve been hearing a lot about these recently, but here they are again. The Okay Win rocks the house tomorrow 3/12 with their raucous indie rock sound, and Saturday 3/13, 3rd Left will jam the night away like only they can – BOTH SHOWS are at Sweetwater Cafe in Boston. Both shows are at 10pm, 21+ and have a $5 cover.

Then the other big thing going on this weekend is the NIKE INDOOR NATIONALS indoor track meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. We’ll be up bright ‘n’ early tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday, providing the sound production for guest DJ Stephen Infascelli and the other announcers at the national high school indoor track meet. Yeah, it’s a big meet. Like reeeeal big. We’ll be tweeting about it throughout the weekend to let the world know how its going. And if you want to see some great races and events featuring the best high school athletes the good ol’ USA has to offer, then come on down and check out the meet. Here’s the schedule.

In other news, yesterday, Ben Carter was in the studio with us recording another installment of THE BREWSTER SESSIONS. It was a great time, and inspired some really cool ideas that we’ll be revealing soon. They may or may not involve a CD and the summer concert series. For now, here’s a sneak peak: A rough mix of “Anna” by Ben Carter.

Don’t miss the shows this weekend. Rock on!

Greg and Nate rock the groovy Sweetwater downstairs

Greg Loftus at Sweetwater Cafe March 5, 2010. Presented by Brewster Productions.

The rad tunes were pouring out of a little room downstairs in an alleyway club tonight in Boston. Greg Loftus and Nate Cristofori, two of south-of-Boston’s finest, tuned up Sweetwater Cafe’s downstairs stage tonight. Nate started off the show with some great sing-alongs with his contagious piano-ing, and Greg closed out the evening with some incredible bluesy guitar and singing work. Check out the photos. Good night, and see you next week.

Here’s what’s going on next weekend: The two big shows are THE OKAY WIN 3/12 and 3rd LEFT 3/13, both at Sweetwater Cafe. Also next weekend, Team Brewster will be tackling the Nike Indoor Nationals track meet as the official sound team. We’re going to tweet about the wacky time we’re having the whole time with fun photos, so stay tuned to that if you feel like reliving your former athletic days through a sound production company. Which reminds me: Follow us on Twitter! Who knows, maybe we’ll end up like that girl @lovelybutton if Conan discovers us.

PS – HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY TO SCOTT!

A Plymouth-in-Boston weekend coming this march to a Sweetwater near you (feat. The Tranzmission indie music blog launch party)

Shaun Dever, performing 3/19 at Sweetwater Cafe, is also our main graphics and poster guy here at Brewster. So, without his computer while surfing the days away in Costa Rica, this is the poster he came up with.

This will be a great weekend. On March 19, Shaun Dever will rock the Sweetwater Cafe in his ‘back in the USA’ debut show after surfing his way through Costa Rica for some time (see the photo). Then the very next day, March 20, our good friend and international indie music writer Ryan Wood will be hosting the official Boston launch party of his new music blog, The Tranzmission, which will feature the incomparable JAKE HILL w/ another incredible mainstay of ours, Greg Loftus – it’s sure to be a bluesy, folksy night.

So you’re probably beginning to see that March at Sweetwater Cafe in Boston, presented by Brewster Productions, is going to be a pretty rad time. Make sure you check out the show schedule because we’ve got 7 SHOWS coming up featuring the likes of Sean P. Rogan (of Big D and the Kids Table), The Okay Win, Big Big Buildings, Nate Cristofori, Electric Mummy and more. It’s gonna be a great month as we get geared up for the big 3rd season of the School’s Out Summer Concert Series. (and yes, we know all these shows at sweetwater are unfortunately 21+, but you just wait a tiny bit longer and we’ll make it up to you and then some)

Later!
Jon

‘Good afternoon Reggie Lewis Center…check….check 1….check 2….’

A cell phone picture of Scott (right) working hard on the wireless mic setup. Coach Infa on the left.

Yesterday Scott, Steve Infascelli and I spent the better part of the afternoon at the Reggie Lewis Center doing the first of what will be a few test runs for our big Nike Indoor Nationals sound production gig. For those of you who don’t know, the Reggie is an indoor track/giant athletics field house at Roxbury Community College. We’ll be producing the sound for the big national high school indoor track meet there on March 12-14, which is sponsored by Nike. So yesterday we fiddled around with a bunch of wireless mic stuff, a ducking system, and the giant expanse that is the Reggie Lewis Center, and surpisingly, pretty much on the first try, everything sounded great even with the wacky acoustics.

So that’s the Nike Indoor Nationals update for now. We’ll take lots of pictures and tweet and blog about our experience and such when the meet comes around.

And remember, we’ve got TONS OF SHOWS coming up in March so don’t miss them.

Sing-alongs, jam fests, and an all-around ‘sweet’ time w/ Ben, Darren, Seth, and the acoustic EHB

Ben Carter performs with Darren Hawe joining him onstage for some vocals and tambourine.

Howdy everyone,

We all had an awesome time last night at Sweetwater Cafe in Boston with Ben Carter, Darren Hawe, Seth McFadyen, and a surprise acoustic appearance by The Eagle Hill Band. Everyone was dancing and singing along to some great chunes played by all. I guess I don’t have much else to write about it, except that it was wicked fun. Check out the photos!

Peace,

Jon

Seth McFadyen is accompanied by Jon and Phil of the Eagle Hill Band (bass and djembe), along with Ben Carter and Darren Hawe for a set-closing rendition of "The General" by Dispatch.
