This is the blog/site of me, Jon Dorn. My online art portfolio is here: jondornart.com. I’ve suddenly become interested in blogging, various Internet things and other media theory after my first semester in grad school. Is that overdone/totally generic? Probably. But let me defend myself: 1) I figured it would be personally interesting/productive for me to blog about stuff that’s on my mind having to do with art and media, etc. Hopefully I’d find and post some interesting sources, which would help me sort out some of my work in school, and maybe help out someone like myself if whatever I post shows up in a search result somewhere. 2) I think it’s good for people who are interested in working with Brewster Productions to know the people who’re running the thing, even if that’s just through a blog – it makes the company more accessible. Sure, blogs are self-important, but whatever, they can be interesting/helpful too, and that’s what I’m going for.
So that’s why I decided to do this blog (I need to justify it to myself). For the purposes of this blog, here’s what you need to know about me:
• I’m from Plymouth, MA and I think it’s a great place, but with a lot of issues
• I’m a grad student at Emerson College in Boston working on a MFA in media arts, concentrating on film
• I went to Skidmore College where I was very involved with the college newspaper. I have a BA in Psychology.
• I’m a co-founder of Brewster Productions and the School’s Out Summer Concert Series
• I love to draw editorial cartoons, which I started doing a lot of in college
• My girlfriend Courtney is a law student and she’s very smart. And she’s hilarious. (ps – don’t go to law school…unless you’re nuts)
A few fun facts about me:
• I sometimes wish I was Australian. I base my horrible attempts at an accent on Outback Steakhouse commercials, so all I can say is “bloomin’ onion” and “mate”.
• I’m a horribly shameless promoter of Brewster Productions (click the link to find out more!). E.g. When my girlfriend needs a pen, I pull out a printed Brewster pen and say, “brought to you by Brewster Productions.” It’s an addiction really.
• I almost always have to order shoes because my feet are so damn large. Bastards.
