While all the older youngins of Plymouth were fightin’ the power at White Horse Beach last night, we discovered that Fourth of July Weekend in Plymouth Center equals family weekend, including all the smallest youngins of America’s Hometown.
It also turns out that ‘family weekend’ means hordes of small children…..and as soon as our headliner, Ben Carter, let one of the smaller audience members take the mic on ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, the floodgates opened to an untamed sea of “Mary Had A Little Lamb,” “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” and the “ABCs”. Countless kids took the mic between Ben’s songs and turned the show into half Ben Carter, half children’s classics revue. One of the highlights was a young boy’s rendition of “Leaving On A Jet Plane” – he knew the entire song by hear. It was awesome.
Everyone had a great time all day and into the night as the audience was entertained by Doug Logan, Lights Out Riga, Willie Dinardo, and the upside-down-guitar-playing Jesse Boncek.
The show was also a benefit for the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, and we raised a decent amount of money through donations. Thanks to everyone for coming out!
NEXT WEEK we have a great show, co-presented by ‘Take Me To Your Music,’ the music blog by Ryan Wood. The lineup: Greg Loftus, Gaslight Revival, Stephen MacDonald, and Jessi Milch – exact times coming soon.
Come on down to Plymoth today (click here for the OCM article about things going on this weekend). Stay tuned, and keep supporting local music!
Keep it real, happy 4th of July.
