A joyful snowy February morning to everyone,

Yes, it may still be 20 degrees outside and snowing, as people painfully push themselves through 40 miles-per-hour wind bundled up head to foot, but our minds are in warmer places, namely summer 2010 and the concert series.

As you’ve probably seen, we’ve got all our summer show dates lined up, but now we’ve got an actual show to announce. We’re keeping the tradition alive with a 3rd year in a row of our big 3rd Left / Jake Hill / Eagle Hill Band main stage kick off show…..but this time it’s even bigger. Why? Because it’s on the 3rd of July, which is, for all you you non-Plymoutheans out there, one of the biggest holidays of the year (along with the 4th and Thanksgiving). It’s going to be a huge musical bash on the waterfront this July 3rd, which means the whole 4th weekend will be HUGE.

Good evening everyone,

Have we got some great news for a cold February night: We’re officially announcing our 9 acoustic summer shows at the Hedge House Lawn! That’s right, that puts the 2010 School’s Out Summer Concert Series up to 14 shows, which is 1 more than we tried for last year (the weather was not our friend at many points), and 5 more than we actually pulled off. It’s going to be an incredible summer concert series, and we’re trying to raise some money to get some great names in there to play with the local guys – you can find out how to support the series with your donations here. So without further adieu, here they are, the 2010 ‘Acoustic Evenings On the Harbor’ shows @ the Hedge House Lawn (which was graciously donated as a venue by the Plymouth Antiquarian Society):

So that’s that. We’ll be announcing the performers in the coming months, which means if you want to play, send us an email. These shows are for ‘acoustic’ acts, which means pretty much any act with a few people and no drums. It’s more of an intimate coffeehouse sorta vibe going on. Yes, you heard it right, it’s only November 17th and we already have our 5 main stage summer concert dates lined up. This means that if you’re in a band and you want to play on the big stage in Plymouth next summer, give us a shout! We’re starting everything way ahead of time this year, and our 3rd summer of concerts is going to be the best yet. It seemed more like fall than summer tonight, so I suppose it was an appropriate end to our summer concert series for 2009. Despite it being a little chilly, however, we ended the summer on a perfect note – that of Braintree’s own Chris Albert (of the Affective Collective and Free Breather, performing with Joey “Pants” Pantaleo of Ette and the Affective Collective) and Tyler Rheardon (of Semester Abroad)….and NO RAIN. At all. Not a drop. Hard to believe, I know.

We’re going to keep our thank yous short this time around, but believe you me we have a ton of people to thank. First we need to thank the people who came out to the shows. As someone once said, “without the crowd, it’s just another band practice,” and we truly appreciate the people who came out, enjoyed the shows, and even contributed a little hard-earned cash to help the series keep afloat. Also we need to give a giant thank you to our sponsors, without whom we’d just be sitting with our same original SPL speakers and some crappy Samson mics….well probably not, but we’d be improving/repairing our setup a lot less: The Pilgrim Sands, The Seabreeze In B&B, Rogers & Gray Insurance…..and a HUGE thank you to The Plymouth Antiquarian Society. These guys are truly incredible – we quite literally would not be able to put on our Hedge House concerts without them, because they let us use their lawn. It’s a rare instance of people not judging us by our age and dismissing us as “punk kids” – and it’s not just that – they’ve been beyond supportive and as helpful and nice as we could ever have imagined. Please support them by going on some tours of the great old houses of America’s Hometown.

And of course, our biggest thank you of all goes out to the people no concert series could do without: THE ARTISTS. We are eternally grateful to all the awesome musicians who came out to play our shows for FREE. We’ve hung out with old friends and met some incredible new people this summer, and all these connections are what keeps our concert series going. Thank you bands, you are awesome.

On the subject of meeting people, we’ve met and seen a lot of cool people over the course of the summer, including a number of well-known faces. If you were at the show tonight (or Twittering w/ someone at it), you might’ve seen Nick Santino of A Rocket to the Moon hanging out. Here comes the famous people name-drop…get ready:

I didn’t think so. We’ll be around all year, but I won’t be making any more posts to this site for a while. We’ve finally come to the end of the monumental 2nd season of the School’s Out Summer Concert Series – but not before Chris Albert (of Free Breather) and Semester Abroad take the stage at the Hedge House for one more great acoustic show. This is sure to be a great show – these guys are coming right from the heart of the hot Braintree-area alt/indie/punk scene. That scene has gained national recognition for producing acts like Feels Like July and A Rocket To the Moon (Fueled By Ramen/Decaydence….you know, Pete Wentz’s label, home to Fall Out Boy, Panic At the Disco, Cobra Starship, Four Years Strong, and so on), and Chris Albert has toured with ARTTM.

So, needless to say, this is good stuff. Make sure you come down to the show – Chris played with us last year at our very first Hedge House show, and it’s great to have him back. The lineup!:

Moving on from the nonsensical, unnecessarily ‘trying-to-be-poetic’ post title, we’ve been experiencing a little bit of Robert Plant in our lives in the past week or two – it’s been “Good Times Bad Times” at Brewster Productions. If you’re scoring good vs. bad on a purely numerical scales, as far as number of incidents, we’ve been having a damn good week – Schoolhouse Rock was awesome, all the bands were great, Love In Stockholm might be opening for The Cars because of the show, Nate Cristofori was a crowd-pleaser, and so on. But if we tally up the score by weight, at least in the past couple days, it’s been more on the side of that S word that rhymes with “pit” and refers to some sort of excrement.

Friday night, my laptop was stolen at the Hedge House. Not an old laptop with nothing on it. The opposite, in fact. It was my relatively-brand-new MacBook Pro that I bought for grad school in June. We’ve been more or less running the business and promotional ends of Brewster Productions and the concert series off that computer, and get this……..NOTHING WAS BACKED UP. I know, that’s my fault. But it still sucks – well it more than sucks, but you get the idea.

Anyway, as Dr. Percival Cox once said: “Upsetting, but we persevere.” So it’s back to business.

Check out the photos from Schoolhouse Rock ‘09 – this is the 3rd year we’ve done the all-day show and it was a great time. Love In Stockholm was incredible, and the Reykjansbaer Jazz Band was incredibly talented – clearly from a music school….it was crazy seeing a 20-year-old kid do an incredible drum solo reading from sheet music. That kind of discipline doesn’t lose laptops.

Here you can also see some photos from Nate Cristofori’s show on Saturday. It was a great time, and his playlist managed to run dry after the crowd kept him on stage through 2 encores. People love their piano.

NOTE FOR THIS WEEKEND: Unfortunately, Happy Balky & the Good Livin’ had to cancel because of an emergency with one of the band member’s children. We’re working on getting a replacement, so we’ll update all yous soon with that.

Howdy everyone,

The past couple weeks have been pretty hectic, so I haven’t been keeping up with the posts. So here’s a quick one and some photos. The Mark Rose/Lucas Carpenter was great. It was really cool having a couple touring acts come through, and it was sweet overhearing Mark say to his guitarist during sound check, “yeah at Warped Tour you can never see your tuner because it’s always so sunny out.”

The Eagle Hill Band/The Release show was great, and EHB put out their debut CD with a bang. Check out the photos.

Anyone who was into the pop-punk sort of stuff in the early 2000s has probably heard of Spitalfield, the recently disbanded Victory Records band. Well, in a big treat to us (they’re one of Scott’s favorite bands), and to fans, front man MARK ROSE will be making a stop on his tour at the Plymouth Waterfront main stage for a big headliner show. He’s on a midwest/eastcoast tour with Lucas Carpenter, and on the 7th, you can also see 2 great local openers, Jesse Boncek and Ben Carter.

THEN THE VERY NEXT DAY, the Eagle Hill Band will be having a big CD release party on the main stage to celebrate their debut album, “In Cahoots”. You can purchase a copy at the show for $5, or pre-order online for the same price: www.eaglehillband.com.

Check this out. AbsolutePunk.net has posted the tour dates for former Spitalfield frontman Mark Rose, and we’re on it! As some of you may know, Mark Rose will be performing at the Hedge House lawn on August 7th, and it’s going to be awesome.

This posting is sweet news, because AP.net is probably the biggest source of music/band news in the alt/punk/indie scene. Count it.
